In 1999 Veggie Brothers Founder, Michael Balducci
suffered from a numerous illnesses, experienced fatigue and
pain daily, and needed a solution. He recognized the need to change
his diet and improve his health to create a permanent lifestyle change that would
serve him well.
However, he was frustrated with the taste of
meatless prepared foods found in supermarkets and resorted to learning to
cook dishes that were
unfortunately bland, boring and were not enjoyed
by others he knew.
He reclaimed his health through a yearlong
educational program taught by Dr. Gary Null, PhD, which taught him about holistic
health and nutrition, how to cleanse, rebuild and rejuvenate the body, how to distress,
how to eliminate destructive habits and incorporate healthy ones, and other
holistic healing concepts and modalities that established a new diet, a new lifestyle, a new and more sustainable way of
living for him. He even lost 25 pounds in the first three months.
It was a whole new world for Michael, especially
coming from a blue collar Italian American family from Queens, New York, where
the words like vegan, organic, holistic health, fiber, or meditation were not
part of his everyday vocabulary, and unhealthy animal based products were part
of every meal, along with other bad eating and non sustainable lifestyle habits.
He was so amazed of what he learned and how it
helped him and others in the program that his yearning for more knowledge led
him to the famed Institute for Integrative Nutrition in NYC, where such distinguished
current faculty members include Dr. Deepak Chopra and Dr. Andrew Weil.
There was only one problem. His taste buds continued
to suffer poorly since he started his new vegan diet, albeit a healthy one. He
longed for the familiar dishes he grew up eating and sharing them once again
with the people around him without compromising his commitment to his healthy
lifestyle. He had a vision to help people enjoyably transition onto a healthier
and sustainable plant based diet. And he wanted to give people lots of variety
to choose from so he sought out the most brilliant vegan chefs and the greatest
recipes he could find that he knew everyone would enjoy, regardless of whether
they were vegan, vegetarian, flexitarian, omnivore or carnivore.
